Meet Mark Alexander, U.S. Army — 2026 Veteran

Commissioned in 1989 as a Field Artillery Officer, he was assigned to multiple units in Germany, Ft Drum, New York and Ft Bragg, North Carolina, serving in increasing positions of responsibility from Fire Direction Officer, Fire Support Officer, Battery Executive Officer and culminating in Battery Commander.

In 1998, he then transitioned from Field Artillery to the United States Army Special Operations command to become an active-duty Civil Affairs Officer in the 96th CA Battalion. He served as a Team Leader and Company Operations Officer. He then moved to the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School serving as a Company Commander. He then was assigned to the 1st Special Forces Group as the S9 deploying multiple times in support of Operation Enduring Freedom-Philippines. There he served as the 1st SFG LNO to JTF-510 and later as the J3 for the Joint Special Operations Task Force-Philippines.

Returning to Ft Bragg, he was an Instructor and Detachment Chief for CA training and Company Commander for the CA/PSYOP Advanced Individual Training Company. He served twice in the 95th CA Bde (A)as the Operations Officer and later as the Executive Officer.

Between assignments in the 95th CA Bde (A), he served as the Director of Host Nation Affairs for the U.S. Military at the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense. Throughout his service, he deployed multiple times to the Middle East and Southeast Asia. He culminated 24 years of active service in 2012 and continues to work as a DA civilian at USASOC.

Mark and his wife, Beverly, have 3 grown children and one grandchild.
