Meet Larrie Ausman II, U.S. Navy — 2025 Veteran

Larrie Ausman II is a native of Hendersonville, North Carolina and enlisted in the Navy in June, 1995. From there he graduated boot camp at Great Lakes, Illinois and attended his training in Port Hueneme, California, for Construction Mechanic "A" school, graduating in January, 1996.

His first command was NMCB 133 in Gulfport, Mississippi, where he deployed to Rota, Spain, Guam and Bosnia as a floor mechanic learning the ins and outs of the trade and got his footing in the Navy. In May, 2000 he transferred to NCTC Gulfport, Mississippi, as a field crew mechanic ensuring all the training equipment was operational for the Equipment Operator training classes. From there he transferred to Naval Special Warfare Development Group in May, 2003.

Ausman became the mechanic for the Ground Mobility Department, later on becoming the LPO of the department. He made 7 deployments to Afghanistan in addition to other destinations supporting the SEALs and a clandestine mission set. in January, 2009, he moved back to Gulfport, Mississippi and NMCB 7 where he was selected for Chief Petty Officer and took a detachment to Cameroon, Africa as Assistant Officer in Charge.

May, 2011 brought another move, this time across the base to the Construction Equipment Division where he was the Safety Compliance Officer for 88 civilian mechanics performing depot level maintenance on Seabee construction equipment. May, 2014 was the final move, back to Virginia Beach at Naval Special Warfare Group 4 as the Civil Engineer Support Equipment Manager overseeing the overall maintenance, acquisition and disposition of equipment for 3 Special Boat Teams and a training command. In January, 2017, he retired. He qualified for Seabee Combat Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Aviation Specialist (Fixed Wing) and Expeditionary Warfare Specialist.
