Meet Marine Sergeant Troy Burmesch — 2014 Wounded Veteran

Sergeant Troy Burmesch USMC, enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps as an Infantryman in January 2000 and was Honorably Discharged in May 2012. Burmesch was mobilized 3 times during his career. He has served as an Infantry Platoon Sergeant and earned a Certificate of Commendation during his last mobilization to Iraq. During his first mobilization to Iraq in 2004-2005, his platoon conducted over 175 missions. Nineteen out of the twenty-eight Marines in that platoon earned a Purple Heart. Troy was one of nine Marines assigned who did not suffer physical injury. Although his platoon endured and fought through an endless amount of mortar attacks, IED's, vehicle born IED's, rocket launcher attacks and direct fire fights, he was extremely lucky having made it through his combat deployments physically unscathed.
